Moon Embracing the Sun (2012) [Haereul Pum-eun Dal] is a South Korean television drama series, starring Kim Soo-hyun, Han Ga-in, Jung Il-woo and Kim Min-seo. The historical-fantasy drama is adapted from the novel of the same name written by Jung Eun-gwol. It aired on MBC from January 4, 2012 through March 15, 2012.
Moon Embracing the Sun won the Best Drama and Best Actor awards in the television category at the 48th Baeksang Arts Awards, and multiple awards at 2012 MBC Drama Awards, including Drama of the Year.
The Moon Embracing the Sun is the story of the secret love between Lee Hwon (Kim Soo-hyun), a fictional king of Joseon, and Wol, a female shaman. Wol was born as Heo Yeon Woo (Han Ga-in), the daughter of a noble family who won the love of the crown prince, Hwon. Her enemies, jealous of her family’s position in court, schemed against her, wrestled away her rightful place as crown princess, and nearly took her life. Years later, an embittered Lee Hwon meets Wol, who is now a female shaman with no recollection of her past.
