Rookie Historian Goo Hae-ryung (2019) [Sinipsagwan guhaeryeong] is a South Korean historical romance drama television series starring Shin Se-kyung, in her title role of Goo Hae Ryung, the free-spirited female historian, and Cha Eun-woo, as Prince Yi Rim who is working underground as a romance novelist.
The series aired on MBC from July 17, 2019 to September 26, 2019, and is streaming online internationally on Netflix.
Rookie Historian Goo Hae-Ryung (2019) is set in the early 19th century. Twenty six year old Goo Hae Ryung (Shin Se-kyung) is a noble lady who works as a historian in a time when female historians are looked down upon because of their gender. Yet, Goo Hae Ryung fulfills her duty as a historian and as a defender of those wronged and abused. The young, handsome 20-year-old Prince Yi Rim has lived his life alone in his chamber, the Nokseodang, hidden away from the politics of the royal court. He finds comfort and happiness through writing and has taken on the pen name “Maehwa” under which he writes romance novels. His novels have made “Maehwa” very famous, especially to the women readers of Hanyang.
