Descendants of the Sun (2016) [Taeyang-ui Huye] is a South Korean fantasy, romance television series directed by Baek Sang Hoon, Lee Eung Bok. It stars Song Joong-ki, Song Hye-kyo, Jin Goo, and Kim Ji-won. It aired on KBS2 from February 24, 2016 to April 14, 2016. KBS then aired three additional special episodes from April 20, 2016 to April 22, 2016 containing highlights and the best scenes from the series, the drama’s production process, behind-the-scenes footage, commentaries from cast members and the final epilogue.
Descendants of the Sun was a major hit in South Korea an it received the Grand Prize in television at the 52nd Baeksang Arts Awards; and was named the Most Popular Show of the year by Korea Broadcasting Advertising Corporation.
The show was broadcast across Asia where it was hugely popular., and has been credited with a rise in tourism in Korea. A local adaptation has aired in Vietnam, and adaptations are planned in China and Philippines.
Descendants of the Sun is about how people bond during war time and work together to overcome the great odds against them.
This fantasy romance drama is the love story between a surgeon and a special forces officer. Kang Mo Yeon (Song Hye-kyo) is a pretty and assertive woman who works as a cardio-thoracic surgeon at Haesung Hospital. She believes that people should be advanced based on their capabilities, not on their connections and that honesty and a willingness to admit mistakes is important. She lives by these beliefs but she is forced to face the fact that this is not reality and that she will be able to advance based on her capability alone. Her life is changed when she encounters Yoo Si Jin (Song Joong-ki), the Captain and team leader of Alpha Team. He cares about protecting individuals who need his help, as well as protecting his country, even if what he does goes against the orders of his superiors.
