The World of the Married (2020) [Bubu-ui Segye] is a South Korean romance drama television series directed by Mo Wan-il and starring Kim Hee-ae, Park Hae-joon, and Han So-hee. The series is based on BBC One’s drama series Doctor Foster, starring Susanne Jones in the title role. It aired on JTBC from March 27, 2020 through May 16, 2020.
The World of the Married is the highest-rated drama in Korean cable television history, overtaking SKY Castle with its final episode. It recorded the highest average rating for a drama on cable television. The content of this drama generated a huge amount of attention and discussion. Credits gave positive reviews to The World of the Married for its screenplay, direction and the performances of it’s actors. At the 56th Baeksang Arts Awards, Mo Wan-il won Best Director and Kim Hee-ae won Best Actress.
Ji Sun-woo (Kim Hee-ae) is a revered family medicine doctor and the associate director at Family Love Hospital. She is married to Lee Tae-oh (Park Hae-joon), and they have a teenage son, Lee Joon-young (Jeon Jin-seo). Sun-woo has everything, a successful career, a happy family, but unbeknownst to her, she is being betrayed by both her husband and her friends.
Lee Tae-oh (Park Hae-joon) runs a small entertainment and film company with the support of his wife and he dreams of becoming a famous movie director. Even though he loves and cares for his wife, Tae-oh allows himself to endanger everything he has when he gets involved in an extramarital affair which leads to a whirlwind of revenge.
