It aired on MBC from November 16, 2016 to January 11, 2017. It is a coming-of-age sports drama, inspired by the life of Olympic gold-medalist Jang Mi-ran.

In Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo, 20 year old Kim Bok Joo (Lee Sung Kyung) is a weightlifter who is pursuing her dream of winning the Olympic gold medal when she falls in love for the first time. While she trains with heavy steel weights, she is still very feminine. She knows that focusing solely on weightlifting will jeopardize her new relationship, but giving up her weightlifting career for love would keep her from attaining her Olympic dreams. Can she find a way to have both love and glory?
